THE SELKIE

Patrick could not believe his own eyes: the swimming girl was stark naked. Her intrusion on his quiet beach walk, although unexpected, didn’t seem out of place. “Like meeting a doe in the forest,” he thought. He spied a bundle behind a rock. It was a seal skin. He picked it up and touched the soft fur to his cheek. At that moment, the girl saw him, got out of the water and stood in front of him. She was scared.

He realised what she was. He put down her skin, turned around and walked home to his wife.
