CALENDAR

The most popular religion in the world today is

BELIEF IN THE CALENDAR.

We are slaves to it. Days pass, as they do, the sun rises and it sets, the moon waxes and wanes, and we count these cycles obsessively. We adjust our counting, a day added every four years, because try as we might our counting system does not match the natural rhythms.

That being said, I’ve no idea how to break free from this. I am as much a slave of it as you. And I find myself committing to things

“I will make a drawing each day for the next year”

And printing out sheets to count the drawings and yet

I know myself by now.

I’m exceptionally good at starting things.

Finishing things? Not so much. I set these deadlines but I don’t keep them. I am wracked with guilt for not keeping them. I try again.

I fail at it again.

I want to get better at this craft of drawing. I know a daily habit of practising will help. But I don’t practise daily.

I want to get better at this craft of writing. I know a daily habit of practising will help. But I don’t practise daily.

I want to get better at the craft of walking barefoot. I know a daily habit of practising will help. But I don’t practise daily.

I try again.

I fail again.

Slave of the to-do list.

Slave of the Gregorian Calendar.
